Summary[]
As soon as time resumes, Fushi takes to the skies in an effort to locate the strange boy who took imposter Mimori and her brother with him. However, he is unable to find him.
The next day, Fushi, as Joann, tries to sniff the boy out. Bonchien, who's walking Fushi, asks Fushi why he doesn't just ask the Beholder about the boy, but Fushi tells him he tried calling out for him but the Beholder never appeared. Fushi follows the boy's scent to an orphanage and finds the boy. The boy spots them and walks towards them. Fushi realizes the boy is the Beholder to the shock of Bonchien.
The three of them go to a diner and Fushi confronts the Beholder about his new look. The Beholder explains that he severed his body from he surface and that he gave Fushi his ability to reconnect. Without his ability to reconnect he decided to become a terrestrial creature and watch over everyone. Fushi is confused but the Beholder further explains that his current body is set to forget everything once it turns fifteen. Meaning in four years he'll become an ordinary human. The Beholder tells Fushi that he achieved his goal and that he has nothing left to do. Fushi protests saying he still hasn't acquired everything yet, such as water. The Beholder agrees and says Fushi can't even make things he can't see with the naked eye. Fushi then brings up the Nokkers and Mimori and the Beholder confirms that there are Nokkers inside her.
The Beholder then explains that, while Fushi was able to defeat all the Nokkers he could perceive, he didn't eliminate those that grew smaller, eventually becoming too small for him to perceive. He explains that their number is already immeasurable and that they have infested the entire world, without anyone noticing a thing. Bonchien asks if it's hard for Fushi to sense and locate small things, like small bugs, and Fushi concurs.
Fushi gets more and more upset as he learns all this, accusing the boy of telling him to just ignore the Nokkers. The boy argues that they could have easily killed all humans in the past centuries, but they did not. He concludes from this that the Nokkers have chosen coexistence and are no longer a major threat.
- The Beholder
Bonchien asks the Beholder if there is any way to spot a Nokker-infested person, or if there is a way to eliminate the just Nokkers from a person's body, to both of which the answer is no. Fushi protests and yells at him that he should tell the Nokkers to leave these people's bodies, but he simply replies that there is nothing wrong about it. He leaves the diner and Bonchien follows him, offering to walk him home.
Fushi is left alone to process all the new information he just learnt, whacking himself in the head in frustration. Suddenly, Yuki in disguise appears to be sitting behind him and tells Fushi that he's heard everything. Fushi wonders how long Yuki's been following him and Yuki tells him since yesterday. Yuki then grabs Fushi's hands and tells him that he's got him on his side.
