Summary

With March’s death, Fushi has gained more humanity. Each experience gives Fushi more humanity. Fushi continues his journey, utilizing March's form to climb up trees and eat fruit, Joaan's form for navigation, and The Nameless Boy's form occasionally despite there being no notable advantages to this form. Fushi avoided using Oniguma's form due to the pain it feels.

Whilst up in a tree munching on fruit, Fushi catches a familiar scent. Fushi looks over in the direction it’s coming from, and notices Pioran, sitting alone by a fire, with the wagon they previously used to escape from Hayase.

Fushi approaches Pioran out of curiosity, but ignores her and heads straight to the wagon to inspect the spot where March died in the wagon, but all that was left was her pool of blood. Seemingly discontent, Fushi starts to walk away leaving Pioran behind, which she is not thrilled about. Pioran follows Fushi as they walk for the rest of the night.

Pioran asks for a break from walking, as she is seeking food and water. In her starved state, Pioran notices Fushi’s blood stained bandage. With a watering mouth, she charges towards Fushi and takes a bite out of his thigh, exclaiming that Fushi doesn’t need it, as the eaten meat will regenerate anyway. Regardless, Fushi shakes Pioran off by shifting into Joaan’s form. Despite this, Pioran continues to chase Fushi down trying desperately to get a bite off, when Fushi shifts once more into March’s form, climbing high up into a tree to eat a fruit angrily, looking down on Pioran. Fushi mimics what March once did, and throws down fruit after fruit for Pioran to eat, and once they are both sated, Fushi slides down from the tree requesting a “thank you” for the food. Pioran responds warmly to this, giving Fushi a pat on the head, and the requested “thank you”.

Along the path, Fushi and Pioran come across a map in which the sea, and a town are marked. Pioran begins to copy the map down onto her own piece of paper. This intrigues Fushi. Fushi grabs the writing utensil out of Piorans hand and starts to add random scribbles. Pioran, slightly amused by this, offers to teach Fushi how to read and write. Pioran teaches fushi many words, including; bird, fish, river, and fire. Fushi and Piorans journey continues for multiple days, until they reach the town at the sea, where Pioran teaches Fushi the word “boat”, as they board.

On the boat, Pioran asks about Fushi’s past. Fushi explains to Pioran how he walked and walked, until he met the boy, March, and then Pioran. After Fushis story, Pioran gestures towards the red sky peering over a mountain. Pioran tells Fushi that the Yanome are responsible, as they fight everyday with Takunaha. Fushi and Pioran get off the boat during the night, so they decide to go to sleep and continue on the next day.

While they sleep, a Nokker shows up and impales Fushi in an effort to steal the boy's form, and successfully does so. Fushi, no longer able to shift into the boy's form, awaits combat with the Nokker. As Pioran is yelling at the Nokker, time stops and a mysterious figure comes out of the ground. This figure explains to Fushi that this is a sort of test, and that Fushi needs to fight it, and win. Fushi engages with the Nokker, and in doing so, loses the form of Joaan. Fushi then switches to Oniguma, where he successfully reveals the Nokkers core, but that results in Fushi losing Oniguma’s form as well. Finally, with March’s form, Fushi pulls out the Nokkers core, killing it and regaining the lost forms. The mysterious figure parts Fushi with final words, and then Fushi turns to Pioran exclaiming “that's weird!” about the situation.

Fushi and Pioran continue on to Pioran’s hometown. Fushi and Pioran enter what seems to be a shop. In the shop, there is a child wearing a mask that looks like a lizard. Pioran is yelling about how Fushi is immortal, and that they should be grateful that she brought something like Fushi back.
