Fushi reveals more about the goals of the Nokkers and Fushi's creator. When on the topic of gods and demons, Tonari confesses that her father's laughter after his victory in the tournament has made her believe that he and every other prisoner on the island were "murderous scums who are better off dead", and that coming to this island has completely poisoned her heart. Fushing tells Tonari that their parents may be demons, but either way, they will live exactly how they want to live. That night, Tonari dreams of returning home and sharing her newest work with her parents, after which she comes to the painful realization that it is time to move on. A huge number of Nokkers have taken over corpses and risen from the corpse pit at the town. Chaos quickly escalates as Jananda's residents fight for their lives. Fushi joins the battle. He hesitates to kill the Nokker-controlled "zombies" at first due to their human appearance, but is able to overcome this fear. He defeats the first zombie but fails to kill the fleeing Nokker core. Tonari, who turns out to have followed Fushi, appears and finishes off the Nokker with a small knife. Another Nokker attempts to attack Tonari from behind, but is knocked over by a flying chair. As it turns out, the ones who threw the chair are Tonari's friends who also returned to the island to assist Tonari. The group continues to battle the Nokkers, hoping to eliminate them all before sunset. They manage to kill a few Nokkers before Oopa trips over and has her body taken over by a Nokker. The group tells Fushi to quickly do something, but Fushi says in frustration that he is not capable of doing everything and that saving someone is one thing he has never done. As they look after Mia, the Nokker-controlled Oopa appears again. Tonari begs Fushi not to kill Oopa, but Fushi responds that she is already dead. Having returned to consciousness, Mia asks Tonari why she's crying and tells her that life is better spent smiling instead. Heartbroken, Tonari apologizes to Mia, saying it's all her fault that Mia was injured but Sandel tells her it isn't.

The Nokker starts making it's way up Uroy's arm when suddenly, he takes out a sword and cuts his arm off. Fushi, in March's form, watches on in horror. Summary

Tonari returns to the hole where Fushi was trapped, only to realize that Fushi has already managed to dig his way out. At night, they sit down by a campfire inside a cave to avoid a storm. The next morning, she and Fushi prepare to continue their journey.

Hayase's soldiers come to check on Fushi and realize that he has already escaped. Before they are able to report to Hayase, another soldier comes in a hurry to notify Hayase about trouble in the town. At the same time, Fushi, who was about to depart with Tonari, also hears news about another Nokker attack in town. He decides to go help the town, but Tonari protests, arguing that everyone worth saving has been saved. However, Fushi ignores and runs off alone. The Beholder says that Fushi made the right choice. Fushi asks why the Nokkers are not directly attacking him, and The Beholder responds that they might have plans of their own.

Mia tries to help Oopa up, but is pierced in the chest by the Nokker-controlled Oopa while the others look on in horror.

The group runs away, while Fushi carries the unconscious Mia to a safe spot. In the safe spot, the group assesses Mia's condition. Uroy asks him if he can do something besides just making tools - like healing wounds. Having returned to consciousness, Mia asks Tonari why she's crying and tells her that life is better spent smiling instead. Heartbroken, Tonari apologizes to Mia, saying it's all her fault that Mia was injured but Sandel tells her it isn't.
