Number One (1) (いちばん①, Ichiban?) is the first part of the 146th chapter of the To Your Eternity manga.
Summary[]
It's revealed that Hanna was eavesdropping on Mizuha and Fushi in the previous chapter. Hanna overhears Nokker Mizuha refer to their friendship hair tie as a "silly thing" and feels hurt. Just then, Funa appears and Hanna leaves.
While walking home, Hanna finds Mizuha, sullen, waiting for her at the spot where Mizuha gave Hanna the hint about who she liked. Hanna asks Mizuha if she's alright. Mizuha doesn't respond. Hanna then asks if they can still be friends and if so, she would like Mizuha to tell her about the things she still hasn't.
Mizuha kisses Hanna
Mizuha looks up and suddenly kisses Hanna. Hanna blushes and is confused as to why Mizuha would do such a thing. Mizuha confesses her love to Hanna leaving Hanna speechless. Mizuha asks if Hanna likes her back and she says she does (as a friend). Mizuha says their kiss was fine then. Hanna backtracks realizing Mizuha means like as in more than a friend.
Mizuha sits down and asks if Hanna wants to do it again. Hanna tells her she's acting strange and suggests that Mizuha likes Fushi. Mizuha asks what she thinks and Hanna says she could tell by watching her. Mizuha says she's sorry for making Hanna jealous then Nokker Mizuha says Hanna's wrong and that it's Fushi that likes her. Hanna doesn't buy it and says she could tell Mizuha likes Fushi especially after what she saw/heard today. Hanna then comments that Yuki would've liked the stuff she overheard today but Mizuha informs her that Yuki already knows everything.
Nokker Mizuha then says that everyone's worried about her because they love her. Hanna senses something's wrong and kneels down to Mizuha and tells her she wants to help Mizuha be happy. Nokker Mizuha asks if she can be Hanna's number one then. Hanna isn't sure what she means by that and rejects the idea.
Mizuha sighs and Nokker Mizuha calls Hanna plain and dull and claims that's why she joined the handicrafts/Occult Research club alone. She rhetorically asks if Hanna's glad to have an amazing friend like Mizuha. Hanna is stunned and asks if that's how Mizuha saw it. Mizuha tells her yes and asks if Hanna feels the same.
Hanna flashes back to all the times she spent with Mizuha. She pulls the hair tie out of her hair and throws it away calling it a "stupid thing" and runs away. Mizuha realizes what she's done and Nokker Mizuha tries to stop Hanna but Hanna, crying, doesn't turn around. Mizuha decides to go find Fushi and Hanna stops in her tracks and cries.
