Words That Don't Reach (2) (とどかぬことば②, Todokanu Kotoba?) is the second part of the 129th chapter of the To Your Eternity manga.
Summary[]
Fushi, as a messenger bird, watches as Mizuha leaves for school in the morning. The imposter warmly seeing her off and telling her to be careful of cars. Fushi notes that Mizuha's fake mother isn't doing anything unusual and that they should be able to go to school without trouble again today.
At the Aoki family home, everyone is gathered around the table for breakfast. Bonchien asks Gugu if anyone said anything about his mask at school and Gugu tells him no. Bonchien says that's good while mentioning he paid the school a handsome amount to look over the issue. Kazumitsu suggests that Gugu have a doctor look at him and tells him that face-changing surgery might be worth considering. He also notes that the alcohol in his gut could burst at any moment. Kazumitsu then suggests to Hairo to go to the dentist for dentures and Hairo says he's already interested in it. March chimes in and says she wants to pitch in more instead of play all day and Kazumitsu informs her and Iddy that he's already requested a homeschool instructor for them next week. Kazumitsu then asks Kai if he has any job prospects yet and Kai tells him he's been wanting to run his own shop. Bonchien tells him the Foundation will sponsor his shop.
Fushi arrives home to the delight of March who's been worried about where he's been all morning. Fushi tells her he went on a walk but Tonari sees through this and asks if he was with Mizuha. Gugu is surprised and compliments Fushi. However, Tonari says she doesn't think it's a good idea for Fushi to get involved with her.
Just then, Messar arrives home with gifts in hand. He gives the girls macarons and the men bottles of sake. Kai speculates that he must've won big at the horse races. Gugu, Hairo, and Fushi ask if Messar got them anything and he tells them to buy it themselves. Fushi comments that Messar's cold to younger guys. Messar then kicks back and says the modern age isn't so bad. Fushi watches as everyone enjoys themselves and smiles thinking that everything's peaceful.
Fushi and Tonari head off to school and Fushi asks what Tonari meant by not getting involved with Mizuha. As according to him, Mizuha is just a normal girl. Tonari agrees but points out Hayase, Hisame, and Kahaku all looked normal at first too. Tonari then warns him that Mizuha might have ulterior motives just like all her ancestors did. Fushi doesn't share her worries since the Nokkers are gone. That doesn't change Tonari's mind though. She accuses Fushi of trying to compensate for Kahaku not coming to the current era with him by spending time with his successor, Mizuha. Fushi is shocked by her words and denies the possibility that there could be a Nokker inside Mizuha.
Tonari then admits that she just wants to make sure the current era is peaceful because she and all of Fushi's companions will live and die there. This makes Fushi determined to prove to her that this world truly is peaceful.
